Our girls were enrolled in the local ski club; skiing with a coach and their peers every Sunday. They are both little rippers now, Emily easily skiing as fast as an average adult, with grace and fluidity not shared by many. Her sister, a more aggressive style of skier, is hot on her tail.

Maddie was awarded ‘Most Improved Skier’ in her group by her coach this year.

The older kids finish off the season with an overnight campout. With the help of a few dads, the kids build their own snow caves, learning some essential survival skills along the way. They play some search and rescue type games, then have a wiener roast and a giant bonfire. It’s a great experience and the kids love it.

Ariana Grande

For Christmas we gave the girls tickets to see their favourite singer, Ariana Grande. The accessible seats were sold out so I bought 3 so Simon could take them. Lucky for him, his cousin Cathy offered to make it a “girls night out” and took them to the concert. We joined 2 other Revelstoke families for a pre-show dinner and hype-up for the girls. By freak chance, the girls and their friends had seats 3 rows away from each other.

Right before the show:

Ready to go with Ariana shirts and kittycat headbands like the singer wears.

The Nutcracker

The girls took part in the Nutcracker with the Victoria Ballet. It was a sold out performance at our 350 seat Performing Arts Centre. They were not super thrilled to be “just mice”, but it’s really all about practising for and taking part in a professional production.

The cast:

Emily above left star, Maddie above right, just after taking their bow. The taller girls had full-head mouse masks.

A New School Year

Here we are starting the 2016-17 school year already! It feels like summer never really got into full swing in Revelstoke, or I guess it did in April and May..?! And fall just came in like a hammer this week, time to cover up the basil at night. Basil doesn’t like single digit temperatures, but I digress…
Emily is in Grade 6 this year, in a 6/7 split class at BegbieView elementary (no middle school here), Madeline is in grade 4 at the ecole des glaciers. I cannot get a school photo of the girls together in the morning because Maddie is off to get on her bus before Emily is ready in the morning. Emily is just 3 minutes from her school.
They are both happy about their teachers and classes and were very excited to see all their friends again.

Canada Plus Grand que Nature

Maddie was invited to participate in the filming of a french TV show called Canada Plus Grand que Nature, hosted by Jean Luc Brassard, Canadian Olympic medal holder in freestyle skiing. The show is all about him experiencing beautiful places throughout Canada and getting out with the locals. They were visiting Mt. Revelstoke National Park on mountain bikes.

End of the school year

Grades 3 and 5 are now wrapped up. The girls are growing so fast! A few random photos of the last week of June.

Madeline’s 9th birthday party

Another fun-filled year for our Maddie. She celebrated with some friends starting with a neighbourhood-wide scavenger hunt. I made it fairly challenging and a few kilometers in length, kept them busy for about an hour.

After some fun and games, the kids each made their own pizza.

Everyone loves birthday cake!

Last night we attended the ‘flying up’ ceremony for Madeline, she is finished as a Brownie and will move up to Guides with her sister. These two were all goofiness and giggles after a number of cookies at the event. 🙂

Dance Recital

The girls danced for two nights of sold out shows at our Performing Arts Centre. This year Emily was in Jazz, and Maddie was in a Lyrical and Modern class. They are both amazing dancers!
