ALS Walk-a-thon

May 26, 2012

I travelled to Vancouver for an ALS walk-a-thon which was held in Steveson. The weather turned out to be beautiful, a bluebird day, and the route of the walk was very scenic along the water’s edge overlooking Vancouver Island. There was a good turnout, possibly about 300 people. Pictured is the “warm-up exercises”.

The main reason I attended this event was that my step-sister, Sylvia, who was an Olympic athlete in freestyle skiing, presented the ALS Society of British Columbia with a check for $5000, on behalf of RBC. In this photo L to R are: Wendy from ALS BC, me, Sylvia, and Wally Buono, coach of the BC Lions and ALS BC spokesperson.

Thanks to the organizers, volunteers, Sylvia, and RBC for this event and donation which goes to support and research for persons with ALS.

While in Vancouver I had a chance to watch and meet some of Canada’s wheelchair basketball team. They were on a week-long training camp and I visited with my high-school friend, Brett, who is the team physiotherapist.
