It’s time again to hang up the skis for the season. There’s still 3 metres of snow up there but the visiting skiers are gone and the ski area needs them to stay open.
Emily had 2 goals this season. Her first was to ski “Kill the Banker”, a run that is very long, and quite steep in parts under the gondola. I believe it is so named for the high cost of putting the gondola in. Conditions were right one weekend in February and she skied it 4 times that day. She even talked her dad into bringing Madeline down there too, and patiently showed her sister the easiest way down.
Maddie, 2 years ago, at the top of the run, feeling a little intimidated.
After that goal was demolished, she set her sights on the sub peak of Mt. Mackenzie. At 7700 feet (2340 m) it’s a 1/2 hour uphill climb in ski boots from the upper chairlift. It’s like walking straight up an uneven set of stairs made of boot holes. Apparently she charged up there (as dad carried her skis) and made it up no problem.
Way to go Emily (and Simon)!
